THE NEW MOONS

ROSH CHODESH "THE NEW MOON"

gadshofarTehlim 81:3-5 (Psalms)
[3] Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
[4] For this was a statute for Yisrael, and a law of the Elohiym of Ya'aqob.
[5] This he ordained in Yehowsef for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Mitzrayim (Egypt): where I heard a language that I understood not.
[6] I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.
[7] Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of M'riybah. Selah.
[8] Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Yisrael, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
[9] There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
[10] I am YAHOWAH thy Elohiym, which brought thee out of the land of Mitzrayim: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

WHAT IS THE NEW MOON?

The New Moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon, in its monthly orbital motion around Earth, lies between Earth and the  Sun, and is therefore in  conjunction with the Sun as seen from Earth. At this time, the dark (unilluminated) portion of the Moon faces almost directly toward Earth, so that the Moon is invisible to the naked eye, as seen from Earth.New Moon to New MoonYashiyahu 66:22-23 (Isaiah)
[23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith YAHOWAH.

HOW DID OUR ANCESTORS KEEP THE NEW MOON WHEN THEY COULD NOT SEE IT WITH THE "NAKED EYE"?

MOONLIGHT

There were two methods for predicting the new moon. The first was used during clear weather. It involved keeping watch of the diminishing phases of the moon until the sliver or Crescent was visible. The evening following a waning Crescent is the New Moon, or "Dark Moon".

The second method took into account that inclement weather would make sliver sightings impossible so they created yearly Almanacs that were based on the past phases of the moon, and included calculations and adjustments for the following year.

Ancient civilization was far more advanced than many people tend to be aware of. Ancient "Almanacs" were able to predict celestial events with amazing accuracy.

An almanac (also spelled almanack and almanach) is an annual publication containing tabular information in a particular field or fields often arranged according to the calendar. Astronomical data and various statistics are also found in almanacs, such as the times of the rising and setting of the sun and moon, eclipses, hours of full tide.

They predicted leap years, and all. You can click this link to view an on-line Almanc of Lunar Cycles from 2005 to 2015.

WE MUST NOT CELEBRATE THE NEW MOON ON THE CRESCENT MOON (THE SLIVER), BUT ON THE DARK MOON!

Some Yisraelites have maintained that the New Moon Feast is to be celebrated upon citing the crescent moon, like the 1.8 billion Muslims do worldwide, when giving all honor and praise to their deity. The obvious answer would be that were are not Muslims, but Islam was founded in 610 AD. The New Moon was given in Torah nearly 2000 years earlier.

The Nabiy Yirmĕyahu (Prophet Jeremiah) delivered a message from YAHOWAH commanding us not to include the visible objects of heaven in our worship.

Yirmĕyahu 10:1-2
[1] Hear ye the word which YAHOWAH speaketh unto you, O house of Yisrael:
[2] Thus saith YAHOWAH, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

LEARN NOT THE WAYS OF THE HEATHEN

The Most High told Yirmĕyahu to tell us that "the customs of he people are vain".In fact, the entire chapter is on idolatry.

WHEN YOU WORSHIP AT THE APPEARANCE OF THE CRESCENT MOON YOU ARE BOWING BEFORE THE MOON.

WHY DO YOU THINK YAH MAKES US WAIT UNTIL THE SUN IS DOWN TO BEGIN OUR SHABBATHS? BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SUN-DAY WORSHIPERS. NOR MOON WORSHIPERS.

King Dawid Ben-Yishay and Y'hownathan Ben-Sh'uwl had a discourse that lets us know that our fathers had foreknowledge of when the unseen moon would appear!

1st Sh'muw'el 20:5
And Dawid said unto Y'hownathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.

1st Sh'muw'el 20:18
Then Y'howathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

This clearly shows us that Rosh Chodesh was celebrated for two days. The first day was on the Dark Moon, and the appearance of the "Sliver" was the second day. Dawid would not come out of hiding until the second day of the feast was fully completed. He did not want to be summoned to the Kinf's table. On the third day at even, the full-blown Crescent Moon would appear, signaling the end of the feast. It would be safe for Dawid at that time.

May YAHOWAH increase the understanding of Yisrael. Hal'luYAHCLICK HERE TO SEE THE CURRENT PHASE OF THE MOON!
